Elton John’s Opportunistic Orphanarium

It’s the big music news story of the day, it can’t go without mention.  There will be obscure music chat later next week, I promise.

So, Elton John wants to adopt a Ukranian toddler.

May I respectfully raise a concern?

When he visited the orphanage – a quiet affair accompanied by only seven-eighths of the world’s press – he stumbled upon a handily-placed piano.

Now, what do children under 5 like to sing?  The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round?  Old MacDonald Had A Farm?  Something from Bob The Builder’s extensive back catalogue?

No, Sir Elton belted out the defiantly un-singalong Circle Of Life to the bemused nippers.

Sir Elton rocks the suit 'n' trainers combo

It’s The Circle Of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the Circle
The Circle of Life

A man of his skills could surely have improvised a plinky-plonk tune about putting your hands on your head (or something), but no, he bellowed his smash hit from the Lion King like a terrifying uncle, not knowing that Ukranian orphans generally don’t have a massive amount of disposable income to splash out on DVDs and soundtrack albums.

The full horror can be seen here…

also, most of them are probably too young to have ever heard of the lion king. but elton seems too removed from real life to understand such things. if he does adopt the kid, imagine how outdated his dvd collection would be, all the other kids would make fun for that reason alone.
